How It Works

It’s easier than you think. And here’s some more good news: you won’t lift a finger. Everything’s automatic.

BEFORE THE POWER GOES OUT

Your emergency generator is standing by 24 hours per day 365 days per year. It’s ready to come to life when needed. When it turns on it will provide power to entire home but it only comes to life when the brains of the system tell it to turn on. The brain is the automatic transfer switch (ATS) which monitors the electricity coming from the utility and it monitors power consumption 24/7. This device is located near your generator and utility service. It tells you where your home’s power is coming from — utility or generator (see colored icons to right). In addition to turning on during an outage your generator will exercise itself and run diagnostic tests for 20 minutes each week to make sure it’s ready when needed. And guess what? It happens automatically.

THE POWER GOES OUT.

When the power fails or drops below an acceptable level (brownout), the ATS signals the generator to start. In seconds, the ATS transfers your power from the utility service to the generator.

10-Second Response: By the time you read this, your Colonial generator will have started and restored power to your home.

Auto Start/Stop: Unlike portable generators, your generator will start and stop automatically with no need to refuel. No extension cords. No worries. No hassle.
